Sex as Sanctuary is an inquiry into the healing power of Eros, community, nature, and art. The work is an unfolding creative inquiry by three friends, artists, co-facilitators, and erotic playmates. We’re seeking co-conspirators devoted to their own deep investigation into realms of mutual erotic liberation.
Inquiry
Together we will construct sanctuaries in the bliss of our own understanding.
We understand that as sexual beings we each have our own unique erotic practices. How we apply meaning to and awareness within our sexual actions influences their outcomes and our relationships. While pleasure is its own worthy pursuit, what soul-desires also exist beyond our own immediate reach? How might we benefit from consensual group erotic adventures? The premise of this creative project is the belief that the mutual pursuit of erotic healing and sexual intimacy supports humanity’s greater needs, those of shared rest and safety, communal purpose and belonging as well as physical, emotional and spiritual fulfillment. On the wings of poet James Broughten, we “believe in ecstasy for everyone!”
EROTIC
Using Eros as a guide recalibrating the sexual self as nature in us.
Erotic energy is the impulse to live most fully; not just to live here now – in this body; it includes the impulse to create anew – live on!
Whilst we may adore how plants reproduce through beautiful flowers – science teaches us we are closer (in theory) to animals whose reproductive acts look and seem brutal – the screams of the females, the angry fights among males for dominance of the pack/herd.
Both are our legacy = how can we accept all of the machinations of erotic desire + harness them for our common benefit?
As Eros can lead to reproduction – it requires a partner – hence its appearance leads to deep connection, whether with the Self or another. Eros, whilst it may feel lonely, it never is – as the Self is ever aware of its presence; we need to acknowledge this aspect of erotic desire.
When seeking fulfillment of erotic desire – what are we really seeking? Given that erotic desire is primarily felt as a bodily sensation, how are our bodies the vehicles to our deepening awareness, given how our Self notices this inner movement and its fulfillment.
Practice
What puts the erotic
into action?
Socrates tells us that Eros is the child of both need and fulfillment. As much as Eros gets he always wants more.
Many ways exist to gain insight into ourselves and others. Asking the questions, the inquiry, is the starting point. The answer is never the endpoint. In Sex as Sanctuary, most of us will arrive with our own answers and yet we need one another to fulfill our greater collective needs. Richer questions arise when we are together. The creative process allows for integration of fresh perceptions of self into our daily lives and communities, bringing new tools for future intimate connections.
This is not a prescriptive program. We are co-creating an open field for erotic investigation. As facilitators, we bring years of experience creating containers in which participants find and are honored for their hard-won revelations.
Non-judgemental space created through circling allows the participants to create space within themselves to achieve deeper levels of self-acceptance. Their emotional reaction and evolving worldview create new levels of self-acceptance.
